Preschool Sorting Worksheets

Sorting is an important skill for future more complex math learning. It teaches children about similarities and differences, grouping objects together, logical thinking and more.

Many preschool-aged children naturally sort and organize toys during their free play.

And we can build on this interest even further and help them out by providing more structured categorizing activities such as these sorting worksheets.

My sorting worksheets for preschool are based on sorting objects by various attributes.

More ideas for sorting activities

There are many toys and toy sets available these days for hands-on learning. But you can always use everyday objects to teach or reinforce sorting skills in preschoolers. Here are just a few ideas:

  1. For sorting by color use colorful buttons, pom poms, lego pieces or blocks.
  2. For sorting by shape make your own shapes like one mama on this blog or get different shapes buttons that will work great for sorting purposes as well as future crafts or activities.
  3. To sort animals by their habitat you can find different tubes of animals that will work just right.

  1. I can only see the fruit or vegetable worksheet. How do you get the other worksheets? These look fantastic as a follow up activity to many concepts my 3 year old has been learning!

  2. Amelia! You click on the image of the Fruit/vegetable worksheets and it will take you to a 5-page PDF file with all the other ones. Let me know if that doesn’t work for you.

  3. At the end of each post there is a PDF download link. If you’re on iPad or iPhone they most likely block direct download. So make sure to use a laptop or desktop for printing.
