Do-A-Dot marker patterns activity

Inside: Making patterns with dot markers! Free printable activity perfect for preschool and kindergarten.

Recognizing patterns is an early math skill first introduced in preschool.

If your children are only starting out with patterns or already have some experience, this printable activity will be a lot of fun to do.

Patterns in preschool

When children grasp the concept of repeating patterns, they will have a solid foundation for learning more complex math concepts in the future.

Therefore giving our kids enough opportunities to practice patterns is essential.

This is when my fun printable patterning activity comes to play.

Ever since we got the dot markers last Christmas, I’ve been looking for creative ways to implement them into my printables.

And making patterns with dot markers in one of them!

The activity has two variations.

First, present your child with a pattern card and have her copy it onto the blank sheet. This will help her to grasp the concept of patterning as well as exercise her attention to detail.

For more advanced learners, there is an option to copy and finish the pattern. Then they can name the type of pattern as well.

The patterns included in this set are AB, ABB, AAB, and ABC.

What you’ll need:

  • Do a Dot Markers
  • printer and paper
  • laminator
  • scissors

There is a total of ten pages. Eight of them are full of pattern cards. the last two are blank pattern sheets your child will dab & dot.

You can choose to use the blank worksheets for your child or cut out the blank cards to fill in the patterns.

But you can also use the blank pattern cards for creating your own patterns. Then have your child copy or finish them.

I recommend laminating the pattern cards for multiple uses and durability.

  1. Hi! There is a picture on top of the post where you can see the activity.
Yes, you cut out the patterns and children use dot markers to copy the patterns on a blank page. They can pick and choose from different pattern cards. Hope this helps.

  2. Well I would like to help but you need to be more specific. The problem is probably in your printer settings. What exactly does it say?
